30th January 2007 ::: Successful Test \ Evaluation Day ::: |
|
|
A typically paparazzi style flash of light bulbs and a buzz of
expectation from several waiting reporters greeted Windrush
racing driver hopefuls. They were expertly put through their
paces by GT and Le Mans driver Calum Lockie in a brand new XKR
Jaguar. This did not phase them though they all scored very
highly and after being comprehensively assessed went on to drive
an array of cars that included Vauxhall's Monaro and a Lotus
Exige. All who attended agreed the event was professionally run
and a real eye opener as to the level of commitment of the
Windrush team. Better still was the food one visitor commented "lunch time there was silence!". Windrush Motorsport would like to thank the Daily Mirror for its
support of the Windrush Motorsport project and sponsorship of
the Race Driver Evaluation Day on Monday 29th January 2007. The
Day was a resounding success and underlined a new Caribbean
theme to British motorsport ventures.
The event was well attended and we would also like to thank,
Norma Austin & Lynne Grant for the Caribbean food, Brooklands
Speed for the Hospitality, Jaguar, Lotus and Vauxhall for the
use of their cars, Calum Lockie for all his hard work on the
day, Pearl Austin for the wonderful cake, Colin Jebson from Javelin trackdays and Brands Hatch
racing circuit. |

After a successful test at Donington Park in the Windrush Racing
BMW M3 E30 training car Olevi Doctrove "The Fasta Rasta",
ex-England international footballer Luther Blissett & BMW racer
Raun “blondie” Austin have all agreed what a fantastic idea it
is to
commemorate the 60th year of Windrush by entering an
International motor sport event. They commented “We have all
dreamed about driving in the British GT championships and at Le
Mans which will be firsts for a team of mainly black race
drivers. With the correct backing it’s all possible”.
Elias Elia and Peter Ward Directors of Racing Technologies
(partners to Windrush Motorsport in this venture) commented
"From the results we expect to run strongly in the BMW
Championship and be competitive in the EERC championship during
2007. If we can achieve that we will have a firm foundation for
an assault on the British GT title in 2008”. |
