Windrush Motorsport welcomes the management of the Street Pastors and the Ascension Trust as their guests for the Silverstone 24 hour race on September 8 & 9th. For Rev Les Issac who has spent 25 years helping young men and women out of the clutches of crime; using motor sport as a conduit for exposure is nothing new. The Street Pastors logo is often seen on the Ferraris of GT drivers Hector Lestor and Le Mans racer and British GT champion Chris Niarchos.

Founder of Windrush Motorsport, Raun Austin, read with interest the research and recommendations of the recent REACH report published on 9th August 2007. “I was staggered to find that my experiences as a businessman in the UK mirrored the very negative media portrayal of young black men particularly when business does not go to plan. I experienced that the legal system we rely on for justice is often manipulated to work against us. I can empathise completely with young adults in similar situations. I have been there, and want to use my experiences to make a positive mentoring impact” he says. “We can only make a change by trying harder, getting our voices heard when challenging the media stereotypes and most importantly creating significant positive sponsorship opportunities for organizations that have the financial collateral to make a difference in our community”

Clive Lewis the chair of REACH and one of the contributors to the report says the Government will be responding to the report’s recommendations on 9th November 2007.

In the interim, Windrush Motorsport is creating a sponsorship opportunity that champions the type of role models that research has shown that disadvantaged young adults look up to and combine it with the exhilarating activities that provide enough of a challenge to get the youth “buy in”.
